THE EFFECTS OF DEBASE FORM OF LANGUAGE

Have you ever sat down and have a thought about the concept of acquiring a language? Virtually every body believers that acquiring a language has a divine inclination. No doubt! But looking at the progression of how we lay emphasis on one aspect a language as against the others and one aspect of another language against itself, one could now answer the obvious question on the viability of ascribing divinity on language acquisition.

I am concerned about the bastardization of English language even though as many would say it is not even among our nature languages so why going it a day. Though as a parturition Nigeria , who is championing the crusade of good English language usage, I’m particular concerned again about how pidgin is seriously taking the place of good English language usage Believe me, you  can only belong if you can speak pidgin fairly in this present society.

“Guy e no matter “

“Guy show now”

“You no think am”

“Na my person so make him carry go”

“I open up for ram” etc

You can imagine what prompted me to write on this subject the language is gradually becoming sophisticated and the real standard of spoken English losing it ground

Even though pidgin English is very simple to use and it flows very easily however the language misses the “Gentlemen’s approach and lacks substantial modesty little wonder it is easily switched over during Quarrelling, Argument, During Campaigns, Adverts, Promos, Porters Rally’s, Markets, Parks, Garage or any Aggressive proms circumstances.

In other words, we would have been having less of social problems if pidgin or substandard or debase form of any language (in our case English) is not in use. That is why one cannot be a gentleman if he or she uses the Pidgin English code. This is because language controls our behavior. One behave according the language he or she speaks. A Hausa man behaves like a Hausa man because of his language and he can never behave like a Yoruba man and Igbo Man. Simply put there are some words or codes in every language that touches both the emotional and psychological aspects of the user and this ultimately results to the person’s reaction to things around him or her.

T o got the real reason why a person using Pidgin English cannot pass for a gentleman is to understand how and why the pidgin language came into being. The language use was introduced by the white men before colonization to enhance trade. It is therefore a tool for exploitation and victimization hence it was received harshly and grudgingly. That is why it easily provokes aggression when it is in use.

To have never peaceful society, pidgin or any substandard language should not be allowed to be in use parents should support the school to discourage their ward(s) from using pidgin or vernacular in schools. Standard English create less tensive atmosphere by reducing the amount of talk going round. Too much talk makes the environment noisy, confused and aggressive.
